Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies

The Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies program supports women during their pregnancy to access antenatal care and continues to work with them until they are effectively engaged with Maternal and Child Health services for up to six weeks after the birth of their baby.

The program supports pregnant women who are unable to access antenatal care services or who need extra support because they have greater health risks which may include; financial insecurity, culturally and linguistically diverse background, health choices and behaviours, mental illness, age or distance from services.

Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies is not a clinical antenatal care service, rather it links women to existing services and provides:

• outreach support to pregnant women who may have difficulties engaging with services or have complex needs
• community-based support to women, up to four to six weeks after birth
• help for women to access clinical antenatal care providers and maternal and child health nurses
• health information and education relating to healthy behaviours and eating, exercise and breastfeeding
• peer support from other pregnant women
